Prior to the snowmobile fundraising event, $45,000 dollars have been currently raised with $32,000.00 of which has helped local County personnel with their medical needs, battling Cancer in honor of Brian Caldwell. Tame the Track Snowmobile Tour was able to add to those incredible figures with a donation of $2,475.00 raised directly through snowmobile racing entry fees at the Mega Meltdown!
The Vicious Vintage Championship Series {VVCS} continues to add active competitors to the organization, after the initial race, who battling for positions in the 15 various points related divisions, with a $3,100.00 Purse Fund, lingering at the finish line! This week’s race will be the first Vintage snowmobile associated race in the Caribou area since 2010, and the most Northern race offered by Tame the Track Snowmobile Tour that has offered races from Rangeley to Caribou in 2K18. It was an honor to merge with Brian’s Ride Cancer Foundation for this race, which brought 24 additional participants to join our regular race teams. Organizers believe it’s awesome that Tame the Track Snowmobile Tour has been invited to these several new venues throughout the State, during the Inaugural winter snowmobile race season. VVCS is Maine’s only organized racing series, providing Vintage & Kids Endurance Races, while offering 15 various racing divisions for competitors from ages 4 years old up to 50+ years.

Despite the many miles in between the racers hometowns and the geographical location of the race venue in Caribou, Maine the Mega Meltdown entertained the hundreds of fans with some thrilling side by side snowmobile racing, with the third highest number of class entries with 145 total snowmobile entries, which has been a hectic, but awesome winter racing season. Tame the Track Snowmobile improved from last year, by bumping their registration numbers up to 127.4 average per event, after 2017 average of 106.

While the sport of snowmobile cross country and vintage racing is growing in numbers, the organizers are proud to offer this winter snowmobile racing program for the third consecutive season, and especially to expand to Caribou, Maine. Tame the Track Snowmobile Tour was extremely excited to be a huge part of this community event, that is very well supported by many local business owners, both near & far.

“The racers that took advantage of the annual membership status were contending for a Championship, in hopes to be declared the Champion of one of the 15 racing divisions. Race officials have worked aggressively to be able to offer a full-fledged snowmobile Series with a schedule that fills up many weekends through the winter months, here in the Pine Tree State of Maine. There will be another $2500.00 minimum awarded at the Awards & Appreciation Night on April 14th in Bangor, Maine for the Points Fund offered to drivers.

Several competitive teams were at the Mega Meltdown looking for the Checkered flag as many tight points battles were on the line, as reported last week. The Teens Open looked like a runaway for Damien Doughty walking away with the qualifying heat {coming into the race with a 187-185 points lead}, yet Caleb Morris rebounded and collected the checkered flag in the extended lap feature event. Double points were awarded to all active VVCS members for their performances at the Mega Meltdown.

Next season, organizers might recommend changing the title of the race, as the temperatures were very brisk with the cold wind. Several spectators still lined the fences, catching the thrills & spills along with some exciting snowmobile racing!

After having few snow storms last week and the assistance of both the Limestone Snow Hawks & Caribou Snowmobile Club groomers, the track conditions were looking great for the “Mega Meltdown” race venue at Northern Maine Brewing Company, with some great banked corners on the half mile track, groomed to perfection, by Jerry & Adam Williams and Gary Marquis any his staff. Despite the track being precisely measured to 28’ wide, the track came down to a one lane track, making passing very adventurous for the drivers. The track surface glazed over slightly, prior to the race due to the drop in outside temperatures, over the last couple days. Drivers that were the most successful in their respective qualifying heat races and 18 lap features had their work cut out for them, managing the seven various corners on the course.
